Gampala and Raigama Story

Once upon a time there was a lazy man named ‘Gampala’. He was the laziest man in his village. He did nothing from the morning to evening. And did nothing from evening to the night too. His old mother had to work in others houses to find something to eat.

One day his mother was done with his laziness. So, she called his son. ‘My son, I am too old to work anymore. I have no energy to feed both of us. You are sitting in the corridor all day doing nothing. So, it’s your chance to work and feed both of us. Let me to stay at home.’ She told her son.

Listening to his mother, the Lazy Raigama thought an easy way to feed them. He had no intention of working, because he is lazy. Next day morning he took a sack and went to the jungle. From the jungle, he plucked pepper leaves and filled the sack with pepper leave.

‘Okay, now I can sell this pepper leaves persuading as betel leaves.’ Lazy Raigama thought joyfully. Both betel and pepper leaves look like same. People here use betel as a kind of chewing snack. But pepper leaves have no use. When the sack was filled, Raigama took it on his shoulder and went to the nearest town to sell it. Nearest doesn’t mean a lower distance. There were several kilometers to reach the market and it took nearly a day to reach out. Therefore, when the sun was setting, the travelling through the jungle was not so safe. So, he decided to stay in a hut near there called ‘Ambalama’. Ambalam means kind of places that were built for the late-night travelers to stay safely.

When the lazy Raigama entered to the Ambalam, there was another lazy man called ‘Gampala’. Gampala was also the laziest man in his village and was forced by his father to do something to feed them both. That lazy Gampala went into the wild and picked Kithul seeds to pretend them as ariconut and earn some easy money. Both lazy men became close in a few minutes. During their conversation they introduce themselves as well as they shared their intention of the journey.

After hearing the Gampala’s intention, Raigama thought ‘Oh God! It is such a lucky chance to me. If I can be able to wake up early next day morning, then I can easily pick up Gampala’s ariconut sack and sell it to the town and earn some easy money.’

Meanwhile Gampala thought ‘Oh God! It is such a lucky chance to me. If I can be able to wake up early next day morning, then I can easily pick up Raigama’s betel sack and sell it to the town and earn some easy money’. Both lazy idiots' idea was earning some easy money without sweating.

The next day morning, Gampala woke up earlier and he saw Raigama sleeping. Gampala was so happy, and he sneaked to the Raigama’s sack and took it onto his shoulder and left the Ambalam quickly. After few seconds of the departure, Raigama woke up and he noticed that Gampala was not in the Ambalam. He quickly took Gampala’s sack and rushed out the Ambalam. Raigama was so happy and was thanking God for doing such a favour. But the smile on his face didn’t last a long time. When Raigama opened his sack, he realized that there were no arecanut in the sack. He got only a sack of kithul seeds. And Gampala also faced the same situation. He was also cheated by Raigama. In the end they got what they deserved for their laziness.
